Virtualization

Technologies and Tools

Virtualisation technologies are already consolidated in the market and have proven to be solid solutions for the greener and cheaper challenges the data centres are facing nowadays, such as:
  • Space and utilisation
  • Heat dissipation and power consumption
  • Flexibility and disaster recovery

The use of Virtualisation throughout the enterprise will permit the set up of effective development and preproduction environments, which will help reduce the total cost of hardware as well as being environmental friendly, as it should always be. It would make sense to hope for a close future when governments would fine any indiscriminate use of hardware in the enterprise’s data centres. The Server Labs agrees that some specific scenarios justify the purchase of physical hardware, but many other don’t and the requirements could be met with virtualisation.
Besides the enormous advantage that virtualisation is providing to the data centres and computing power in general, its potential goes beyond that and has shown additional benefits; today we can see virtualisation applied to almost everything. Examples of today’s usages of virtualisation beyond the data centre and pure computing power are:
  • Desktop system virtualisation
  • Virtualised Software development environments, to improve and speed up the development cycle.
Moreover, it is enabling new paradigms to emerge, like On-Demand and Cloud Computing .
The Server Labs is actively applying virtualisation solutions in projects and we use it internally in our lab . The Server Labs has an extensive experience and knowledge on major vendors and products such as VMWare, Sun, Xen, etc and can help your organisation to set up your availability and failover scenarios with virtualised machines, optimise your virtualised infrastructure, etc.
